Parker nitrogen generator system

Bottled nitrogen is costing you more than you think

Most businesses treat nitrogen as a fixed cost. In practice, it is one of the easiest areas to reduce operational spend.

  • ongoing rental charges that never end
  • delivery costs that increase with usage
  • wasted gas through inefficiency
  • production risk if supply is delayed

Onsite nitrogen generation removes these issues and gives you control over your own supply.

Why manufacturers switch to onsite nitrogen

reduce operating costs

remove recurring gas supply costs and stabilise long-term expenditure.

generate on demand

produce nitrogen exactly when required, without relying on external deliveries.

proven parker systems

installed and supported using Parker technology known for reliability in industrial environments.

complete support

design, installation, servicing and maintenance from ALS Industrial engineers.

The UK’s leading Parker service partner

ALS Industrial delivers nitrogen generation systems across the United Kingdom, supporting industrial clients with installation, optimisation and long-term servicing.

How nitrogen generation works

Compressed air is processed through a nitrogen generator where oxygen is removed, producing high-purity nitrogen suitable for a wide range of industrial applications.

Servicing and maintaining your nitrogen generator

ALS Industrial Services Ltd have factory-level training on the full Parker NITROSource and SmartFluxx range from our heritage as part of Parker Hannifin's Service Centre network. We also service nitrogen generators from other manufacturers.

The generator produces nitrogen from compressed air using either pressure swing adsorption (PSA) or membrane technology. Both require regular maintenance, and both are sensitive to the quality of the compressed air feeding them.

Parker NITROSource PSA nitrogen generator and NITROSource Compact side by side

Parker NITROSource and SmartFluxx specialists

Parker's NITROSource range uses PSA technology with carbon molecular sieve (CMS) beds, achieving purities from 95% up to 99.999%. The SmartFluxx range uses hollow-fibre membrane technology for point-of-use applications. Our engineers are trained on both technologies and understand the compressed air quality requirements critical to long-term performance.

Common faults we diagnose and resolve:

Area Typical faults
CMS beds (PSA) Sieve degradation from oil or moisture contamination, reduced nitrogen purity, loss of flow capacity
Switching valves Valve cycle failure, solenoid wear, pressure equalisation faults causing purity loss
Oxygen analyser Sensor calibration drift, failed sensor cell, inaccurate purity readings
Inlet air quality Oil carryover from compressor, excess moisture, failed pre-filters, all of which directly shorten CMS bed life
Membrane units Fibre degradation, oil contamination of membrane bundle, reduced purity and flow
Parker nitrogen generator range including NITROSource PSA generators and SmartFluxx membrane generators

Why nitrogen generator maintenance matters

The carbon molecular sieve beds in a PSA nitrogen generator are sensitive to oil and moisture in the inlet air. A compressor with deteriorating oil separators, or a dryer that is not performing correctly, will shorten CMS bed life significantly. Once contaminated, CMS beds cannot be regenerated on-site and require replacement, at considerably greater cost than the preventive maintenance that would have avoided the problem.

Our maintenance visits cover the generator and the upstream compressed air system that feeds it:

  • Nitrogen purity verification and oxygen analyser calibration check
  • Valve cycle test and switching valve condition assessment
  • Inlet air quality check: oil content, pressure dew point, particulates
  • Pre-filter inspection and element condition assessment
  • Flow and pressure performance test against specification
  • Control system and alarm check
  • Written service record issued on completion

Customers on a service contract also benefit from priority cover for breakdowns.

How can we help?

Our engineers have worked on Parker nitrogen generators across a wide range of industries and installations. Whether your generator is not reaching specified purity, a switching valve needs replacing or your system has never been properly commissioned for the inlet air quality it requires, we can assess it and advise on the best way forward.
